Low- and middle-income countries have disproportionately high numbers of road traffic injuries, rates of fatalities and disability-adjusted life years due to bleeding at the scene compared to high income countries. Since 40% of pre-hospital deaths are preventable through effective bleeding control, training first responders is essential.
On September 28, 2026, Dr. Kirstin Henley presented initial research findings from AFM’s Active Bleeding Control program at the WFPICCS 2026 Congress (World Federation of Pediatric and Critical Care Societies) in Melbourne, Australia.
We are grateful to all of the volunteers who have contributed to this research project especially - Dr. Kirstin Gracia Henley, Dr. Brenda Kunga, Dr. Samuel Kafoe, Dr. Bhupi Reel, Dr. Geethanjali Ramachandra, Rex Daisey, Nancy Moore, Mike Kull, Eric Saunders, Dr. Amelie von Saint Andre-von Arnim, and Dr. Vinay Nadkarni as well as all of our volunteer instructor and training participants!
